Swarco has been awarded a five-year contract to upgrade variable message signs (VMS) across Scotland's trunk road network.
The contract was let by Transport Scotland, which will invest up to £25m in improving and replacing VMS across the devolved nation, allowing Traffic Scotland to continue to ‘provide drivers with high quality, real-time traffic and travel information'.
Transport secretary Fiona Hyslop said: ‘Roadside Variable Message Signs are an instantly recognisable part of Scotland's trunk road network and play a vital role in helping drivers access the most up-to-date traffic and travel information.
‘Signs will be upgraded or replaced at various locations around the country over the next five years. The motorway network in Glasgow is one area in particular where upgrading to more modern technology will improve Traffic Scotland's ability to manage vehicles on this section of the network.
‘This investment will ensure that roadside technology remains fit for purpose and continues to support the safe and efficient performance of the trunk road network.'
