A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management has placed a £1.5 million order with Pike Signals for a total of 275 portable pedestrian traffic signal units. The order comprises Pike’s new Evolution range and A-Plant Lux is the first national traffic management company in the UK to offer the units.Although A-Plant Lux already has the Evolution range in its hire fleet from previous orders, the £1.5m order is the largest single order that Pike Signals has ever received from the company. Pike has recently launched the Evolution range following two years of research and development. The Highways England (formerly the Highways Agency) approved units have gone straight into the A-Plant Lux fleet and are available to hire from its traffic management service centres nationally.Jim McLachlan, business development director for A-Plant Lux, said: “We believe these units offer significant benefits over more conventional traffic management solutions. Allowing up to nine vehicle phases and eight pedestrian crossing points, they have the ability to control a wider range of roadwork situations than ever before. They meet the growing need from highways and local authorities to provide pedestrian facilities at roadworks, which is becoming increasingly important in duty of care and improves pedestrian safety at traffic lights crossing.”
