Northern Ireland's Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has announced plans to kick off work on a £784,000 active travel scheme from Clough Village to Dundrum Village next week.
This final 1.6km section between Ardilea Road and the council car park on Main Street, Dundrum, will mark the final phase of the 3.2km shared footway and cycleway scheme between the two villages.
Infrastructure minister Liz Kimmins said: ‘Creating cleaner and greener travel options is one of my department's seven Foundations for a Better Future, and this route between the two villages will enhance active travel provision in the area.'
With most of the works being undertaken between 9.30 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, the department said that there will be some road closures needed to ensure the safety of the team. It will also introduce a temporary 40mph speed limit, along with a ‘prohibition of overtaking' throughout the duration of the works.
The works are expected to be completed by April 2026, but the DfI notes that this is ‘subject to favourable weather conditions'.
