Next month will see a changing of the guard at the top of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) as current president Mitesh Solanki passes the mantle to current vice-president Kate Carpenter.

The handover takes place on 24 June, when Professor Glen Lyons also leaves the presidential team, having served as president and then as immediate past president.

Announcing the end of his ‘tour of duty' on LinkedIn, Prof Lyons said: ‘It has been a great honour to be at the very heart of our institution and see the dedication, passion, professionalism and humanity across the breadth of the CIHT family.

‘The world feels a darker place compared to June 2023 but there are many people shining bright lights out there in support of the three core themes of CIHT that remains dear to my heart: climate action; equality; diversity and inclusion; and professionalism.'

He also noted that, while he was leaving the leadership team, he would ‘of course' remain a Fellow of CIHT and ‘part of the family', and also remains a member of the council.

'Well done to Mitesh for his presidential year and wishing Kate and her new vice-president the very best of luck for the year ahead,' he concluded.
