The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) has confirmed the results of the 2026 Council elections, totalling six new council members, four new regional representatives, as well as new nominated members and board of trustees.

A ballot at CIHT's Annual General Meeting (AGM) confirmed the following people will serve as ordinary members of the CIHT Council for three years:

  • Fred Amonya
  • Steven Carmody
  • Claudia Currie
  • Tim Cuthbert
  • Anita Solanki
  • Chris Young

These newly elected members are expected to ‘help shape the institution's strategic direction, champion professional excellence, and support the evolving needs of the highways, transportation, and infrastructure sectors,' CIHT said.

The elections also saw regional representatives elected, with Nick Bowyer elected for CIHT South West, Stephen Cragg for CIHT Scotland, Derek Palmer for CIHT East of England and Alexandra Parkin for CIHT North West.

With the election of Steven Carmody as vice president, a casual vacancy was created, leading to Craig Wood being appointed to fill the post.

The following nominated members for 2026-2027 were also elected:

Also appointed were the new board of trustees for 2026-2027:

  • Peter Molyneux, former major roads director at Transport for the North - chair of the board of trustees
  • President: Kate Carpenter, director of operational road safety, Jacobs
  • Vice president and chair of the membership and member services board: Steven Carmody
  • Immediate past president: Mitesh Solanki, managing director of Ringway Highways Services
  • Honorary treasurer: Nik Bowyer, technical director for WSP
  • Chair of the Appian trading board: Richard Ward-Jones, market and strategy director for Amey
  • Chair of the learned society and technical board: Derek Palmer, former head of sustainable transport at TRL
  • Chair of the education and professional development board: Jon Parker, managing director of Jon Parker Consultancy
  • Trustee without portfolio: Anne Shaw, OBE FCIHT Shaw, CEO of the National Transport Authority, Ireland
  • Trustee without portfolio: Jimoh Ibrahim, principal consultant at Haskoning
  • Regional trustee: Joanne Roberts, area manager for Waterman Aspen
  • Emerging professional trustee: Rachel Lord, principal transport consultant for Tetra Tech.
