Amey has announced two new leadership appointments for its consulting business.

Gert Vermeiren (pictured right) will act as its sector director for engineering, with Stephen Knott taking on the role chief operations director.

Mr Vermeiren previously worked at AECOM, where he held several senior managing director roles across the UK and Ireland, Europe and India.

With a career spanning nearly three decades, he has worked in over 25 countries and has taken the helm of major transport and infrastructure programmes such as the Stockholm Bypass, Istanbul Airport, Riyadh Metro, Paris Metro and Moscow Ring Road.

Mr Knott spent the last four years leading Amey's strategic highways business – part of the company's transport infrastructure arm – before this return to the consulting side.

During those four years, he oversaw a ‘large portfolio' of operational contracts and helped to strengthen the company's relationship with National Highways and scale the business to £200m.

He brings two decades of experience working in the highways and infrastructure sector, having built and led ‘high-performance teams' driving growth and delivering ‘complex projects', and is also a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Mr Vermeiren said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Amey at such an exciting time for the business. There is a clear ambition for the future, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to strengthen our engineering capability, support clients, and drive the next phase of growth.'

Mr Knot commented: ‘The strength and breadth of our consulting service delivery and client relationships provide a strong platform as we focus on turning strategy into action, drawing on our One Amey expertise to support both our current and future clients.'
