CEO of Alma Petroli, Sergio Bovo, has been named as the new president of Eurobitume, the voice of the European bitumen industry.
Mr Bovo (pictured above) was elected at the association's recent spring general meeting this month. Other leadership team appointments confirmed at that meeting were:
- Johanna Andréasson, Group Strategy Manager at Nynas AB, was appointed Vice President
- Jean-Nicolas Desprez, Bitumen Regional Technology Manager (Europe & South Africa) at Shell, was re-elected as Treasurer.
Having served as Eurobitume vice president for the previous 12 months, Mr Bovo took over as President from Fabrice Blanc and will serve a one-year term.
He said: 'I am honoured to have been elected President of Eurobitume at a time when our industry is pivotal to delivering safe, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure. Bitumen plays a vital role in road construction and across a wide range of applications that support Europe's mobility and economy. Together with our members, we will continue to drive innovation and responsible practices across the sector.'
Established in 1969, Eurobitume works to educate and promote the efficient, economic, effective, safe and sustainable use of refined bitumen in road, industrial and building applications.
This work is enabled by our network of experts across five committees and Steering Groups, each made up of specialists from member companies and operating through an intensive work programme to deliver guidance and support for members and their customers:
- Bitumen and Sustainability Steering Group (BSSG)
- Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) Committee
- Public Relations and Communications (PRC) Committee
- Safe Handling Sub-Committee (SHBSC)
- Technical Committee
These committees research the scientific and technical issues relating to the handling, application and long-term use of bitumen; produce relevant data for regulators; and provide expert advice and practical guidelines to inform best practice throughout the bitumen industry in Europe.
