SRL Traffic Systems has appointed Paul Lewis as chief executive officer to lead the next phase of its growth.

Mr Lewis joins SRL, Europe's largest manufacturer and supplier of portable and temporary intelligent transport system (ITS) solutions, from temporary security specialist VPS Group, where he was UK and Ireland divisional CEO.

He has over 20 years' experience leading large, operationally intensive service businesses, including senior roles at HSS Hire, Industrial Cleaning Equipment (ICE) and Rentokil Initial.

Backed by its owner 3i Infrastructure, SRL said it was going through an 'exciting time of expansion' through its pioneering REMOS offering – 'the UK's first scalable remotely operated mobile signal solution – designed to improve the safety of road workers and site personnel'.

Mr Lewis commented: 'I am very pleased to be joining SRL at an exciting point in its development. My focus is to unlock the significant growth potential of the business by building a resilient, future-proof organisation that consistently delivers high levels of service to our customers, backed by innovation that delivers real value.

'Just as importantly, I want that success to create an environment where our colleagues can thrive over the long-term.'

SRL's non-executive chair, Kevin O'Connor: 'Paul recognises that great businesses are built from the ground up. He will harness the passion and expertise of our front-line staff and leadership teams to lead SRL into the future.'

Mr Lewis is SRL's second recent senior appointment, joining Ian Hunt, who became chief financial officer in December.
