Two workers have been injured, one seriously, while working on the A556 improvement project.The incident, which saw a scissor lift collapse, happened on Monday night (3 August).According to a Construction Enquirer report, emergency services were called to the site on the A556 Knutsford to Bowdon bypass scheme near the M56.Costain were awarded the £101.7m contract by Highways England (then Highways Agency) in November last year.Cheshure Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters from Cheshire and Greater Manchester were called to a report of a wall collapsing on a scissor lift on a construction site.“Two site workers had suffered injuries and the crews assisted ambulance paramedics with trauma care. The casualties were taken to hospital.”A Highways England spokesperson told Altrincham Today: “We are aware that two contractors were injured, one seriously, while working on the A556 Knutsford to Bowdon scheme on Monday evening.“Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time and we hope they are able to make a full recovery. We will fully cooperate with any inquiries as a result of this incident and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
