American multinational technology company Amazon has announced that it will be adding 100,000 electric vehicles to its delivery fleet.
The addition of the vehicles comes as the company seeks to reduce its carbon emissions and improve its environmental impact.
The Wall Street Journal reports that while speaking at the National Press Club in Washington DC, Amazon’s chief executive Jeff Bezos said the company plans to be carbon-neutral by 2040 and plans to meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement 10 years earlier than the 2050 target.
The electric vehicles are reportedly being ordered from the suburban Detroit-based startup Rivian Automotive.
According to The Wall Street Journal Amazon said the electric vehicles will start delivering packages to customers in 2021. The company plans to have 10,000 new vehicles on the roads by 2022 and all 100,000 by 2030.
