SMART Highways editor Paul Hutton has appeared on national BBC Radio for the second time in two days to explain technology underpinning the concept of smart motorways.

He joined Jeremy Vine and Peter Carroll, Director of the Safer Roadside Recovery and Rescue Campaign, to talk about safety fears surrounding all lane running.

With millions of people listening, Paul talked about technology designed to ensure safety on the carriageway and why traditional motorway hard shoulders are not safe places to be.
