The European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport, Violeta Bulc, says we could see widespread adoption of driverless vehicles within "four or five years".Speaking at a news conference to launch the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux, she said that implementation on all roads might take a little longer, but that they could be common in airports and other "closed" environments much sooner.She added that it is "exciting to see how quickly technology is coming along." but that there are serious issues that need to be addressed related to safety, security and data protection but she is sure they'll be overcome.And Mrs Bulc pointed to the European Union's commitment to new technology in transport, with a '7.5 billion package of co-financing only for innovation in transport and ITS and that she is hoping to get good projects to lay the solid foundation for future investments.You can hear her comments here:[audio mp3="http://smarthighways.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Violeta-Bulc.mp3"][/audio]
