Research by Ericsson suggests that 82 per cent of Londoners are using travel-related apps every day to plan their commute. In a report called "Commuters Expect More", the company looked at travel habits of drivers and public transport users in London, New York, Sao Paulo and Shanghai. It found the biggest demand was for seamless connectivity, but that there is a perception that pubic transport operators across the four cities are lagging behind.

Radhika Jade, Senior Researcher at Ericsson ConsumerLab, blamed "static and disparate information, old ticketing systems and inefficient crowd management" as factors "contributing to dissatisfaction among commuters."

"Commuters want up-to-date travel information," Jade added. "They're asking for Always-on connectivity and more personalized apps to help them plan and pay for their journeys more easily, and make that time in transit more productive."
