A new report is predicting that smartphone subscriptions will more than double around the world within the next five years. The Ericsson Mobility Report says 6.1 billion people - that's 70 per cent of the world's population - will be using advanced mobile technology by 2020, with nine out of ten people able to use mobile broadband networks. The report says 80 per cent of the new subscriptions will come from Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa but that Europe and North America will still have the highest data usage per smartphone. This is expected to drive ITS innovation into existing technology and further away from bespoke devices such as PNDs.
