Sopra Steria has been awarded a one-year extension to its national traffic information service (NTIS) contract with National Highways, valued at roughly £7.5m.
The major technology company was originally awarded a five-year contract with National Highways (then Highways England) worth £41.8m that ran from January 2021 to January 2026 after a competitive tender process, beating out two other bids.
The extension is the first of two allowed by the original contract and will see the company continue its work with the national road authority from January 2026 to January 2027.
It brings the total value of the contract since 2021 to approximately £49.2m.
Sopra Steria will continue to operate the NTIS, collecting and analysing all relevant traffic data, including ‘third-party in-vehicle data’, disseminating traffic information and travel advice, collecting historical data for network planning, and helping to mitigate the impact of unplanned and planned delays.
