Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced around £66m of investment for roads in West Scotland.
The cash is planned to be split across two areas, with £38.7m awarded to Renfrewshire Council so it can link Paisley town centre with the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) and Glasgow Airport.
A further £23.7m has been allocated to North Ayrshire Council to upgrade the B714 to create a faster route between the towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston and Glasgow.
The remaining roughly £3.45m is expected to go to the Scottish Government, allowing them to undertake a feasibility study for improvements to the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.
The announcement comes after campaigners said that they were ‘frustrated’ that there was no money allocated for safety improvements to the A75 in the Spending Review, according to ITV News.
Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, said: ‘We’re investing in the major transport projects, including exploring upgrades to the A75, that local communities have been calling for.
‘This £66m investment is exactly what our Plan for Change is about, investing in what matters to you in the places that you live.’
Scotland Secretary, Ian Murray, said: ‘This investment will make a real difference to people’s daily lives and to the local economies of the South of Scotland, Ayrshire and Renfrewshire.’
The funding comes from both the Industrial Strategy and money allocated during the Spending Review last month, according to the Treasury.
