The deadline to submit a tender for West Berkshire Council's £360m new term maintenance contract is fast approaching, with all submissions due by 5 December.

Those who meet the deadline at the end of this week will be in the running for the decade-long contract, which will see the successful supplier ensure that the council's road network and assets are maintained to a suitable standard in a ‘responsible and proactive' manner.

Expected to start on 1 October 2026, the contract will initially run until 30 September 2033, with a possible three-year extension bringing the end date to 30 September 2036

Whilst the contract is stated to have an estimated value of up to £300m (£360m including VAT), the council does note that this is dependent on the possible impact of local government reorganisation. As the outcome of these proposed changes is still unknown, the tender notice stated that this value cannot be guaranteed and points out that its current contract is valued at up to £150m.

Once all tenders are submitted at the end of this week, the council is expected to announce the successful supplier by 29 June 2026.
