A joint pipeline notice has been released by Bracknell Forest and Wokingham Councils as they look to set up a £140m contract for highways maintenance across both authorities.

Currently expected to run from 1 April 2030 to 31 March 2037, the two councils also plan to allow for a seven-year extension until 31 March 2044, giving the contract a total length of 14 years.

In the notice, the councils stated that they are currently unsure how the contract will be formatted, and stated that it ‘may be commissioned as a joint contract, or the two councils may instead determine to proceed with 2 separate individual contracts'.

Should the councils choose to undertake a joint contract, the successful suppliers would be responsible for maintaining roughly 780 miles of carriageway, with Bracknell Forest Council overseeing approximately 280 miles of roads and Wokingham Borough Council managing just over 500 miles.

The two authorities plan to begin market consultation in 2027 to help them determine ‘how they wish to proceed'.

As it currently stands, the tender notice is expected to be published on 1 July 2027, but this is an estimate and may change.
