Former Welsh transport minister and key architect of the national 20mph roll-out, Lee Waters, has announced he is launching a new consulting agency, having left the Senedd this month.
Mr Walters served as a member of the Welsh Parliament for Llanelli since 2016, before announcing in 2024 that he would step away from politics and not seek re-election this year.
Among his cabinet roles, he was Wales' deputy minister for economy and transport. This role made him the leading figure behind the introduction of the law that set a default 20mph speed limit on restricted roads in Wales.
Announcing his new career move on LinkedIn, Mr Waters said: ‘I'm excited to launch Amanwy Consulting, a way for me to work with organisations and teams tackling complex issues to help them find a practical way of achieving objectives: influencing, collaborating and delivering.
‘Having stepped away from active politics, I'm now focused on working independently with organisations and teams grappling with real‑world challenges: particularly where policy, delivery, and behaviour change intersect.'
Part of this new venture will see Mr Waters work alongside Swansea‑based digital change consultancy Perago as a growth partner and associate to help organisations ‘turn strategy into delivery'.
He added: ‘I'm also looking forward to drawing on my experience to support road safety reform in Australia and New Zealand. I'm delighted to be acting as Change Management and Political Advisor to Austroads, as part of a consortium led by HA Consulting Pty Ltd, supporting speed management change through improved community insight.'
