Simon Bowkett, the interim head of policy and public affairs at Cycling UK, has been appointed as the new director of communications and fundraising for the Bikeability Trust.

Before his year-long stint at Cycling UK, Mr Bowkett spent just under a year as the interim director of development and engagement at STOPAIDS, and prior to that he worked for three years as a senior policy advisor for the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG, then Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities [DLUHC]).

Announcing the post on LinkedIn, he said that ‘after a thoroughly enjoyable year at Cycling UK', he would now be turning what he previously thought was ‘a curious – if very pleasant – career diversion' into a permanent move.

He added he was ‘delighted to be joining the Bikeability Trust' and to be working alongside Emily Cherry (chief executive of the organisation) ‘right at the start' of the delivery of a new three-year contract with Active Travel England.

A spokesperson for the Bikeability Trust said: 'Simon Bowkett has joined as Director of Communications and Fundraising, bringing his experience in active travel policy from Cycling UK and decades of experience in charity leadership. A core focus for Simon will be a new approach to fundraising and partnerships to help more children who do not own a cycle put their Bikeability skills into action.'
