Barnsley Council has appointed former Leeds City Council operations manager, Nazneen Malik, as its head of highways.
She will take over the role from Andrew Tatt, who served as the interim head of highways since March of this year.
Ms Malik spent the past 20 years working for Leeds CC, first as a traffic engineer, followed by group and then principal engineer, before her most recent role.
Sharing the news on her new position, Ms Malik said: ‘After 20 years at Leeds City Council, I've decided to take on a new challenge. I'm thrilled to announce that I'm joining Barnsley Council as Head of Highways.
‘I want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone at Leeds City Council. It's been a privilege to work alongside such talented, dedicated colleagues who are genuinely passionate about delivering better outcomes for the city. The experience, learning, and impact we've achieved together — from major infrastructure projects to day-to-day service improvements — have been incredibly rewarding and have shaped me both professionally and personally. I leave with nothing but gratitude and many fond memories.'
She added that she is ‘eager to work' with her new colleagues at Barnsley Council and to use her two decades of experience while ‘leading the highways team during an exciting time for the borough'.
