Andy Thompson has announced that he will be taking on a new role as managing director of BEAR Scotland.
Before starting in his new role this month, Mr Thompson worked for BEAR as an operating company representative for the past 22 years.
He is a chartered engineer, as well as a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.
He acts as the principal contact for the company's Transport Scotland contract, but also directs, helps and supports all of BEAR's teams to ‘ensure they have adequate resources' to deliver all of their contract requirements.
On its website, BEAR Scotland said: 'Andy Thompson joined BEAR Scotland in 2003 and has over 30 years' experience in the highways industry. Andy's main drivers are the development of BEAR Scotland's staff and providing tangible improvements to the network we manage.'
A BEAR Spokesperson said: 'BEAR Scotland, which is responsible for looking after 1,928 strategic trunk roads for Transport Scotland, appointed Andy Thompson as its new Managing Director, effective from 1 Jan 2026.
'The internal appointment, prompted by the planned retirement of Iain Murray, after eight years in the managing director role, reflects BEAR's commitment to developing talent from within and recognising outstanding leadership.
'Andy has been with BEAR since 2003 and has an in-depth knowledge of the organisation, the Transport Scotland contracts and the industry.
'To ensure a smooth transition, Iain Murray is continuing full-time until March 2026.'
