Transport for London (TfL) has added two major names from national and local government to its board.
Laura Shoaf, the former chief executive of West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), and Alison Munro, the director of the Department for Transport (DfT) between 2007 and 2009, have both been appointed to the board by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, following an ‘external recruitment campaign' and will serve until September 2028.
Ms Shoaf also served as the managing director of Transport for West Midlands and both chair and board member of the Urban Transport Group. Earlier this year, she started a new role as non executive director of DfT Operator Ltd.
Whilst heading up the WMCA, Ms Shoaf led ‘inclusive economic growth initiatives' whilst championing skills development and enhancing transport connectivity. Her time at Transport for West Midlands saw her oversee a multi-million-pound investment package in the region.
Ms Munro is an experienced transport and infrastructure leader, with extensive expertise in major projects, audits, risk and assurance. During her time at the head of the DfT, she was responsible for strategic roads policy and also developed a major motorway investment programme, along with longer-term planning for national networks. She currently serves as non executive for TfL and OFWAT, but was also the managing director of High Speed 2 between 2014 and 2017.
Announcing the appointments on LinkedIn, TfL stated that ‘their knowledge, insight and leadership will help support us as we continue delivering safe, reliable and sustainable transport for London'.
Ms Shoaf commented: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining the board of Transport for London. I have had the privilege of working with the Commissioner Andy Lord and many of his senior team over the years, and I am looking forward to helping support the amazing work they do, and to serving alongside the other excellent members of the Board.'
