Camera technology company Flir is promising to showcase a number of new innovations at the forthcoming ITS World Congress.The company says it'll launch three new uses of its thermal imaging cameras at the event;The Intelligent Thermal Traffic Sensor is an integrated thermal camera and detector for vehicle, bike and pedestrian detection.  Called ThermiCam, it does not need light to operate, but uses the thermal energy emitted from vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to make a distinction between the different road users.  The company says this it to detect vehicles, bikes and pedestrians in the darkest of nights, over a long range and in the most difficult weather conditions and that it is an ideal solution for intersection control, inverse direction detection and vehicle & bicycle counting.The company will showcase thermal imaging cameras for traffic monitoring which it says need no light to work, are not blinded by direct sunlight, and give uninterrupted 24-hour detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, regardless of the amount of light available.There will also be an early fire detection product using thermal imaging, aimed at early detection of first in tunnels.  Its camera detects hot-spots, or detect fires in an early stage so they don't have a chance to spread.
