Google is pushing the American government to change car regulations to allow its driverless vehicles to be legal for sale.At the moment cars must have a steering wheel and pedals, and there are several other rules in place that were drafted decades ago which do not tally with autonomous technology.Auto Express reports that project director Chris Urmson has written to the US government proposing driverless cars should be declared road legal as long as they pass standard vehicle crash tests.It's in response to the US government's call for ideas to speed up the adoption of new self-driving technology.Google's apparently talking with several car makers after Urmson said the company has no intention of becoming an 'automaker' meaning if the tech did make it to production, the actual vehicle that utilises it would be built by an established car firm.
