The London Borough of Bromley has launched a £4.8m procurement on a highways drainage contract that could run for up to 10 years.
The council said it is looking for 'a comprehensive highway drainage cleansing service' that includes proactive and reactive maintenance towards its inventory of around 35,000 gullies, 2,500 soakaways and 350 manholes and catch pits, as well as various linear or kerb drainage channels.
Due to launch on 1 July 2026, the contract would run until 30 June 2032, with two options to extend for a further period of two years each, taking the deal through to 30 June 2036, potentially.
'The Council estimates this procurement opportunity based on the best market valuation of an estimated annual contract value of £400k, the contract notice states.
'To be considered for this opportunity, Tenderers shall have a minimum yearly turnover of at least £800k. The Council will assess tenderers' financial standing as outlined in the Conditions of Participation document and will reject any tender where the organisation is shown to not meet the minimum criteria stated.'
Bromley said the work has a 'particular suitability' for small and medium-sized enterprises and it would make a decision based on a 60/40 cost to quality weighting.
The tender submission deadline is 16 January 2026.
