Professor Pryce Evans has been elected as the next junior vice president of the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and will take on the new role at the AGM this July.

Having joined the Council in 2022, Dr Evans has ‘contributed greatly' to the work of the IHE through engaging with prospective or existing members at events or presenting to students at universities.

Dr Evans started his career in local government as a junior technician, before working his way up to leadership positions as part of multidisciplinary consultancy teams, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by many of our members in their professional lives, the IHE said.

Following his election, Dr Evans said: ‘I'm honoured to step into the role of junior vice president, and I look forward to supporting the IHE in helping our members reach their full potential through professional recognition and continued learning.

‘Promoting greater diversity within our profession and membership is essential. There should be no barriers to progression – whether related to ethnicity, gender, or neurodiversity – and I actively support this through my work in the UK, recruitment to our teams in India, and my teaching engagements in China.

‘Our profession is experiencing rapid change, driven by the climate emergency and the accelerating pace of emerging technologies. I believe in the importance of the IHE's role in ensuring our members are recognised as leaders in responding to these challenges. I commit to supporting the presidential team in delivering their vision and to serving you and our membership.'

IHE chief executive, Lyle Andrew, added: ‘I congratulate Pryce on his election to the junior vice-president position and look forward to working with him on the executive. He is always willing to volunteer for IHE representation and provides a rounded and calculated view when needed.'
