A £3m temporary traffic management framework being procured by Westmorland and Furness Council has been delayed by seven months.
The contract was due to be awarded in September 2025 but this schedule has been upended by what the council describe in its tender notice as ‘delays in internal Governance’.
Tenders will now be due for submission on November 25, with an award in the New Year and the contract starting in April 2026 and running for an initial two years with the option of an extension to 2030.
A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council said: ‘The council has recently completed a highways delivery model review which, amongst other recommendations, promotes consideration of future operational governance models for its range of major highways frameworks and contracts.
‘The council is, therefore, taking more time than anticipated to ensure that the procurement of a multi-year temporary traffic management framework does not adversely affect the ability of the council to continue to develop and transform its highways service. We will continue to keep the market updated with our proposed procurement timescales.’
