Gloucestershire County Council has appointed Montel Civil Engineering to carry out geotechnical stabilisation works on the B4234 Forest Road, outside Lydney, as part of a £1.1m contract.
Lasting just shy of six months from 9 February 2026 to 7 August 2026, the contract will see Montel repair defects that were identified in 2023. As part of this, the company is expected to:
- Provide suitable traffic management during construction works, including full road closure and signposted diversions.
- Install a sheet-piled retaining wall along an extent of 43m - 1.6m from the carriageway edge.
- Drive piles of varying lengths - typically reaching 8.0m - to the designed toe level and cut flush with adjacent ground.
- Construct a new drainage system, including the installation of a concrete bag headwall outfall within the embankment.
- Reconstruct the highway, including plaining and overlay.
- Install a VRS barrier system and wooden fencing over an extent of 131m.
- Traffic signs, kerbing, and road markings.
- Coordinate with BT regarding utility diversions and protection works.
