Maintenance and repair work on the bridge carrying the A447 over Westfield Pill between Neyland and Pembroke Dock is expected to kick off on 19 January.
Essential works were identified by a principal inspection in 2022 to ensure the continued durability of the structure.
Before this programme, the last major works on the Westfield Pill Bridge were carried out in 1998 and required a full closure of the structure. For the 2026 works, however, Pembrokeshire County Council plans to keep the bridge open and use traffic management systems to co-ordinate works while allowing the road to remain open.
These works will focus on replacing the eastbound and westbound bridge parapets and the expansion joints, as well as resurfacing, and are expected to last ‘no longer than three months'.
The council has also planned all works on the bridge deck to avoid other scheduled works on the trunk road, as well as ‘lower traffic periods'.
However, it also warned that there ‘may be delays' on the 349 (Haverfordwest-Pembroke Dock-Tenby) and 356 (Milford-Monkton) bus routes during this period.
