Hillhouse Quarry Group has announced a slew of changes to its leadership, with its long-term managing director stepping down in April, one member of the senior team stepping into a new role and a new face joining the company.

In a post on LinkedIn, the company announced that Robert McNaughton, MD of the group for nearly two decades, would be leaving the role, with Mark Munro being promoted from commercial director to take the reins from Mr McNaughton.

According to Hillhouse, Mr McNaughton ‘guided the business through significant growth, transformation, and milestones' and has left a ‘lasting legacy for colleagues and our long-standing customers'.

It added: ‘Under Robert's leadership, Hillhouse has grown from an Ayrshire-based business into one of the largest privately owned companies in Scotland. He has overseen major strategic and operational change and, in his final year, the business achieved a place in the top 100 private companies in Scotland.'

Mr Munro has over 25 years of experience within Hillhouse and ‘a deep understanding of our people, operations, and values', the company stated in the announcement.

Having started with the company in 1998 as a quantity surveyor, Mr Munro worked his way up.

In another personnel change, Alistair Borthwick will join the company to take over the position of CEO, leaving his position at National Air Traffic Services (NATS) as chief financial officer after six years.

Commenting on his new position, Mr Borthwick said: ‘After an incredible few years at NATS, the end of 2025 marked the close of one chapter and the start of another.

‘As 2026 begins, I'm delighted to be joining Hillhouse Group as CEO at such an important point in its long and proud history. The business is well-renowned for its exceptional service and quality, and I'm hugely excited to be working with the team to build on that foundation with continued future growth.'
