It's reported that Russian police have a new way to deal with car theft, hijackers and violators of traffic rules - remotely switching off the ignition of a car they are persuing.The Telematics News website quotes the country's Izvestia newspaper saying that they are using a feature of the Russian version of eCall, ERA-GLONASS, which is becoming mandatory for all new vehicles.It says the ability to communicate with any car equipped with ERA-GLONASS provides ability to remotely control the car."The option of turning off the ignition is implemented in many anti-theft systems," says the report.  "The signal can be sent via satellite or cellular networks, as the communications is performed in ERA-GLONASS."(Picture credit - Telematics News)
