A465 dualling plans published

The Welsh Government has published plans for section two of the dualling of the A465 between Gilwern and Brynmawr.

The 8.1km length of road will be the fourth section of the A465 Heads of the Valleys Dualling project to be delivered.

The proposals involve widening the existing A465 which passes through Clydach Gorge, alongside the River Clydach and a number of communities either side of the road. It will link up with section one (Abergavenny to Gilwern) completed in 2008 and section three (Brynmawr to Tredegar) due for completion in 2015 to provide a continuous dual carriageway from Abergavenny to Merthyr.

Public exhibitions will be held next month (November).

Transport Minister, Edwina Hart said: “This scheme will make a major contribution to delivering economic benefits by improving transport links for the area including the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone, and at the same time improving safety. The public exhibitions are an opportunity for local people to see the designs of the road and have their say on the plans during the six week objection period.”
