Lagan Construction Group will build a 1km access road at Capitol Park in Goole after being awarded a contract by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The company will build 1km of road to connect junction 36 of the M62 to Andersen Road just north of Goole docks to unlock 40 hectares of land for development that will allow the creation of up to 4,000 new jobs. The contract, which is part of over £13 million investment in Capitol Park, will take 16 months to complete, has been supported by £8,319,490 million of European Regional Development Funding.
Andrew Percy MP for Brigg and Goole said: “The signing of this contract is a tribute to the work of the HCA – it has been a long and complicated process but it is great news for Goole and for job creation in the town. I am pleased that through the HCA, the government has recognised the importance of this scheme for the local area.”
Rob Pearson, head of area at the Homes and Communities Agency, added: “The letting of this contract continues the creation of long term employment in Goole by providing access to both the port and the motorway network. This investment from the HCA and the ERDF to create jobs complements our investment in new homes across Goole and the surrounding areas.”
The road and other infrastructure work will allow the construction of an extra 116,000 square metres of employment floorspace and create a direct connection between Capitol Park and the docks to complement the existing links to the motorway network.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:
"This is a landmark moment for Goole. Job creation is one of this council's top priorities and the building of transport infrastructure, like the new access road to Capitol Park, helps an area fulfil its potential and is often a major factor in securing investment from businesses. This new access road is the final piece of the jigsaw, creating a continuous route from the docks to Capitol Park to the M62. It will open up a large area of the town for potential development, helping to regenerate Goole for the benefit of its residents."
