PATCH team fixing roads in Swansea

Swansea Council is carrying out extensive road repairs in the west of the city.

The local authority’s PATCH team (Priority Action for Community Highways) will be spending intensive weeks in Fairwood, Lower Loughor, Upper Loughor, Kingsbridge, Gowerton, Penclawdd and Pontarddulais from now until the end of October.

The 36-week, £750,000 PATCH project for 2014 is seeing road repair teams visit all parts of Swansea to fill in potholes and fix other road-related problems. Over 20 communities have already been visited since the start of April.

Swansea Council also has three other road repair teams out and about every day in addition to the PATCH team – one in the west of the city, one in the centre and one in the north and east. Regular inspections of roads and pedestrianised areas are undertaken by safety teams to identify road defects and a team is on hand on a 24/7 basis to respond to emergencies.

Cllr June Burtonshaw, Swansea Council's cabinet member for Place, said: "Our road repair teams are doing a fantastic job in continuing to fill in potholes and fix other road problems right across the city.

"Their work often goes unnoticed but they deserve huge credit for keeping the city moving. The dry weather this summer means we've been able to catch up on lots of damage caused to our roads over the winter but defects will continue to be identified and repaired on a priority basis.

"We know the condition of our roads is hugely important for our residents. This why road repair and maintenance work continues to merit our focus and investment in these difficult economic times."
