Procurement for a new framework expected to produce spending of nearly £1bn in highways work across the West Midlands starts next month.
Birmingham City Council is running the procurement and is expected to publish a tender notice on 10 June, after giving notice of the start date in a preliminary market engagement notice.
The expected contracts will be awarded across five lots, with a start date of January 19 next year running until the start of 2034.
The framework will be available for local authorities and other public bodies across the West Midlands covering works from paving and resurfacing to bridge construction and pedestrian routes.
Lot 1 covers specialist jobs, such as dropped kerbs, with a value of up to £200,000, while lot 2 covers works valued from that level up to £1,000,000.
Lot 3 covers works from £1m to £10m and a fourth lot is for schemes above that value.
The fifth lot has no upper limit and will cover ‘contestable and non-contestable utility work related to capital infrastructure projects’.
The framework is expected to provide opportunities for small-to-medium-sized contractors across the region and will be structured to allow for a re-opening in the third and fifth years to admit new entrants.
To be included in the pre-market engagement, interested firms need to complete a questionnaire by 5pm on 19 May, which can be found on the council’s In-tend portal.
