Bollard survives being crushed by cement mixer

A bollard designed by UK firm SignPost Solutions has survived being crushed by a cement mixer in Malta.  

The supplier of traffic engineering products received a call from contractors Adam Grima in Malta, who had installed an SPS 3Sixty bollard in Naxxar, Malta some months ago.

Director Adam Grima said: “A cement mixer hit the pavement and flipped over in Margaret Murray Street, Naxxar, crushing the SPS 3Sixty bollard in the process. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and although emergency services were on the scene quickly the lorry was not righted for about an hour. When the truck was lifted, to everyone’s amazement the bollard came back up.”

SignPost Solutions sales and marketing director Alan Nicholas added: “From the photos you can clearly see that the bollard has been through the wars, but it is testament to the design and construction of the bollard that it survived such an impact and was still fit for purpose afterwards. SPS 3Sixty is fully approved to the required crash test standard BS EN12767 and has proven itself in the UK in many locations and under extreme conditions, but none as testing as this impact in Malta.”
