West Sussex County Council has awarded FM Conway two works packages worth an estimated value of £8m, following a round of mini competitions for capital works worth £16m during the new financial year.
The firm has been on Lot 4 – Carriageway & Footways Resurfacing – of the council’s Highways Maintenance Contract since 2020. It has been awarded packages across a total of 105 sites for 2023-24, under the headings Resurfacing Principal and Local Roads and Footway Reconstruction and Small Works.
The firm said it is well established in the region thanks to its highly advanced Newhaven Asphalt Plant and privately-owned HGV fleet, ‘both of which enable a surety of supply and a focus on materials recycling across its local operations’.
Surfacing director Paul Padfield said: ‘We are excited to continue our relationship with West Sussex and place a keen focus on the circular economy through our use of high-percentage recycled aggregate and single-layer solutions.
‘Our drive for new innovations and sustainable working practices means we can work together with West Sussex to introduce greater efficiencies and more importantly, reduce carbon emissions and network disruption across the county.’
Matt Davey, the council’s assistant director for Highways, said: ‘We are pleased to be continuing to work with FM Conway as we continue to invest in the county’s highways and footways, providing a safe and durable travel network for residents and visitors alike.
‘FM Conway’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon working practices aligns with the county council’s own overarching commitment to tackling climate change through the work we do.’
Associated Asphalt Ltd was awarded a contract for Carriageway Patching works (49 schemes), also under Lot 4.
Eurovia was awarded two packages under Lot 5 – Carriageway Surface Dressing and Carriageway & Footway Treatment – with JPCS Ltd awarded the third package.
Local firm Landbuild was awarded six packages on Lot 6 – Infrastructure Improvements - Planned Works.
