The Highways Agency has announced the winners of its supplier recognition scheme.
Now in its third year, the annual programme highlights the important contribution made by the Agency’s suppliers in managing and improving England’s network of motorways and major A roads. It also highlights the valuable work suppliers do to drive down costs and deliver even more efficient and effective customer services.
Graham Dalton, chief executive of the Highways Agency, said: "It's been another successful year for our supplier recognition scheme. Yet again, large numbers of our suppliers – who are so fundamental to our business – have shown the type of innovation that will help us to be recognised as the world's leading road operator.
"We'll be looking to our supply chain to show more of this kind of good work to support the Highways Agency's journey as we significantly increase investment and customer service."
The winners in each category were:
• Managing down cost/improving value – awarded to suppliers that have demonstrated significant achievement by delivering Highways Agency contracts in smarter, more efficient ways. Awarded to: A-one+ for their work to significantly reduce design costs and reduce the duration of schemes through collaborative planning and visual management techniques.
• Supply chain management – awarded to suppliers that demonstrate the Highways Agency’s strategic agenda, values and principles through supply chains. Awarded jointly to: Amey and Concrete Repairs for their work with specialist carbon fibre suppliers on the M5 Quinton Interchange, and Mouchel jointly with Ramboll for their work together on phase 3 of the Birmingham box smart motorways project.
• Health and safety – awarded to suppliers that show industry leading commitment to improving organisation and workforce health and safety. Awarded to: BAM Nuttall Morgan Sindall joint venture for their work to completely eliminate the need for workers to cross a live carriageway on the M62 junction 25 to 30 smart motorway scheme.
• Promoting diversity and inclusion – awarded to suppliers that have created opportunities to bring people into the workplace and developed skills and capabilities through Highways Agency contracts. Awarded to: Amey for its commitment to supporting and developing its people, and for careful consideration of local communities in Area 9, and Atkins for their work to promote gender balance in the workplace by attracting and supporting female employees.
• Delivering sustainable value and solutions – awarded to suppliers that have integrated environmental, social, economic and management aspects of sustainable development into the delivery of Highways Agency contracts. Awarded to: EM Highway Services for their work in Devon and Cornwall using seeds from local meadows to create similar habitats on the Highways Agency’s roadside verges, and the Skanska Balfour Beatty joint venture for significantly reducing the energy used and carbon footprint of the M25 widening schemes.
