Manchester City Council has tendered a £7.2m highways enforcement framework after gaining powers over moving traffic violations.
In 2023, the city council was granted new powers to enforce laws against moving traffic contraventions that were previously held by local police after consultation with residents and road users.
The framework is intended to provide a system for the council to enforce areas such as bus lanes and parking in cycle lanes, with the successful suppliers expected to provide maintenance for the system.
The tender notice highlights that any enforcement system provided must be ‘fully approved by the Vehicle Certification Agency for use by local authorities enforcing bus lanes and moving traffic offences’.
The contract is expected to run from 19 November 2025 to 18 November 2027, with a possible extension until 18 November 2029 for a total of four years.
