Liverpool City Council has awarded two highways contracts with a total value of £780m.
The larger of the two is a highways planned works framework with an estimated value of up to £750m. Split into two lots – one focused on works up to a value of £1.5m and the other for works with a value greater than £1.5m – the council has assigned eight suppliers.
For Lot 1, Huyton Asphalt Civils, Dowhigh, P. Casey (Land Reclamation) and J. Hopkins were chosen from seven tenders to undertake works up to £1.5m.
Lot 2 also received seven tenders and Liverpool selected four companies – John Sisk & Son, John Graham Construction, Eric Wright Civil Engineering and Aureos Highways – to undertake works for the council with a value over £1.5m.
The framework is expected to run for two years.
A second contract valued at £30m for street lighting maintenance was also awarded by the city council to Nottingham-based contractor, J McCann and Co, which was one of three companies to submit a tender.
As the successful supplier, J McCann and Co will be expected to undertake ‘24/7, 365’ emergency out-of-hours call-outs to incidents on the highway, as well as a wide range of general maintenance activities.
More details on the planned works framework can be found here, with additional information for the street lighting contract available here.
Liverpool City Council has been approached for comment on both contracts.
