TRL’s Collis joins Highways editorial board

Bob Collis, director of infrastructure at TRL (Transport Research Laboratory), has joined the Highways Magazine editorial board. 

He is responsible for TRL’s research and consultancy work for government and private sector customers in the UK and overseas, covering highways, railways and airfields. This work includes highway design and maintenance, asset management, materials testing and the development of road condition monitoring equipment.

He currently chairs the HA/QPA/MPA collaborative research programme for asphalt roads and is a member of the World Road Association’s UK executive committee. He is also an executive director of FEHRL (the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories), based in Brussels. This international association comprises 30 national research and technical institutes from across Europe, with links to non-European countries.

He is the concept lead and chair of the working group for the development of the Forever Open Road and Forever Open Railway programmes, both of which are European initiatives aimed at delivering the roads and railways of the future. These initiatives will deliver new research programmes and demonstrators aimed at developing the next generation of road.

Bob has worked in the civil engineering industry for over 40 years, with the last 16 at TRL. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) and a Member of the Institution of Highways and Transportation (MIHT).

He takes the place on the editorial board that was previously occupied by Nick Anderson, marketing director for TRL.
