VolkerHighways gets set for Windsor start

VolkerHighways starts work in April on a £38.5 million contract to maintain roads across Windsor and Maidenhead for the next seven years after being confirmed as winner of the deal.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead voted to award the deal to the UK arm of the Dutch giant before Christmas after Amey decided against renewing its maintenance contract with the council, which has now confirmed the appointment.

VolkerHighways’s deal runs for five years with the option for a two-year extension and covers repairs to roads and bridges across the Berkshire borough along with road cleaning and vital winter services.

As part of the changes to its highways maintenance arrangements, the royal borough’s council has awarded Consultancy Project Centre a contract valued at £3.5 million covering traffic management and professional services.

A total of 31 council staff will also transfer over to VolkerHighways and Consultancy Project Centre as a result of the changes, which will see the council outsource some services not covered in the original deals.
