VolkerHighways has secured a £1m one-year 'road and tunnel network incident support unit' contract for traffic management along part of the A13.
The contract, which began on 1 July 2023, involves responding to routine inspections and emergency callouts, as well as providing routine high-speed traffic management for highway and tunnel maintenance works undertaken by RMS throughout the year.
VolkerHighways is working on behalf of Road Management Services RMS (A13) Plc, which manages 25km of the network on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), including the Docklands Roads, Limehouse Link and East India Dock road tunnels.
As part of the contract, VolkerHighways will be involved in daily meetings on traffic management requirements on the A13 - an extremely busy London arterial route into and out of the capital.

'We are pleased to have been awarded this contract to work collaboratively with Road Management Services (A13) Plc, to ensure the safety of all highway users and everyone involved in the maintenance of the highway which continues to be number one priority for our business.'

To support the contract, up to 10 fully-trained operatives and managers/supervisors will be working on the project at any time.
