Work to start on A77 in Scotland

Work on the next phase of the £10.6 million Symington and Bogend toll scheme on the A77 in Scotland will start next month.

Contractor R J McLeod, which is constructing the project on Transport Scotland’s behalf, will carry out preliminary works to widen existing junctions and provide safer access to the A77.

The main scheme itself will see the central reservations between Spittal Interchange and Dutch House roundabout closed, and two new flyover bridges built, to remove the need for right hand turns across this busy stretch of road.

For the safety of road users and road workers alike, it is necessary to close one lane of the southbound A77 for approximately three weeks. To assist traffic flow the speed limit will remain at 50mph throughout most of the works

Local access will be maintained throughout this period.

Ruairidh Campbell, project manager at Transport Scotland, said: “This work marks the next phase of this important scheme to improve safety on the A77 by replacing right hand turns with flyover junctions.

“We have planned these lane closures carefully to minimise the impact on the local community and travelling public but some delays are inevitable.

“We advise motorists to plan their journeys in advance using all the available journey planning tools. We thank drivers for their patience during this period.”
