Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) president Richard Hayes appeared on BBC Breakfast this week to talk about the increasing problem of potholes.
Hayes, who has been head judge of the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards for the past two years, gave his view on how local authorities should be tackling the matter.
Speaking on the programme on Wednesday (15 January), he said: "The best response to the pothole problem is through good asset management by local authorities.
"However, good asset management alone will not solve the problem. The IHE has repeatedly called on the government to make infrastructure funding available to local authorities now so we have a fiscal resource to draw from."
