A-one+ recognises top suppliers

05/05/2015 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Highways service specialist A-one+ has announced the winners of its second annual supplier recognition awards.

The awards recognised the contribution made by suppliers through their collaborative relationship with A-one+, which is a joint venture of Costain, Colas and CH2M.

Operations director Stuart Cordier said: “A-one+ has been maintaining and improving some of the busiest motorway networks and trunk roads since 2009. We acknowledge that our success is a result of the close working partnerships we have with our suppliers. Our awards have been designed to thank all those suppliers who have helped our success story. Thanks to the support of all our suppliers we are all working to deliver a better road network.”

Carnell received the top prize in the ‘Continual Improvement’ category for its work in driving down costs while improving safety and reducing disruption to the travelling public.

The ‘Customer Excellence’ award was presented to leading sustainable materials supplier, Lafarge Tarmac, for its commitment to managing change and devising effective programme solutions that minimise impact to the road user.

Scooping first prize in the ‘Gearing for Growth’ category was Lane Rentals. The Humberside based company was awarded after a year where it had seen the purchase of new premises, new planing machines and 12 tippers and the extension of its recycling centre in Hull.

DBi Services, which operates across North America, Europe and the Middle East, was awarded first place in the ‘Safe Working’ category in recognition for its commitment to safety training. Special mention was made of the fact that during the year it had closed the company for three days specifically to deliver a series of seminars, workshops, assessments and training.

The evening concluded with the presentation of a Special Award to Ross Turnbull (pictured left with A-one+ managing director Andy Jamieson) of Aggregate Industries in recognition of his collaborative behaviour in working with the A-one+’s team in the North East. It was deemed that he had gone above and beyond normal expectations and that he had worked proactively with A-one+. Among his achievements was that he had helped deliver 81,000 tonnes of surfacing material over 300 nights and almost 500 truck movements.
