HE awards latest South West contract

22/03/2017 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Highways England has awarded a new-style asset delivery contract to Ringway Infrastructure Services Limited as part of its  new delivery arrangements in the South West.

This is the largest of a number of Asset Delivery contracts in the region and Highways England says it will, "Help deliver the Government’s record £15 billion investment to improve and maintain the country’s motorways and major A roads."

It says the new arrangements will bring a number of key decision-making functions in-house and see Highways England taking greater control over the future of the network, "Ultimately ensuring the smooth functioning of its South West major roads."

The award of this and future contracts allows Highways England to directly engage with the supply chain, to provide the best possible value for money for tax payers, and service for our customers.

The maintenance and response (M&R) contract will run for up to fifteen years and focusses on cyclical and incident maintenance and response across the South West major road network for the next 15 years.

Duties will include severe weather service, incident response - providing timely and critical response as directed by the service manager to get major roads running as normal, and acting as principal contractor under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

David Poole, Executive Director for commercial and procurement at Highways England, said, “We are delighted that Ringway Infrastructure Services Limited will be part of our new Asset Delivery supply chain community across the South West.

“This contract not only builds on the new way of working already taking place in the East Midlands and North of England but also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to increasing Highways England’s capability and control over the whole road network.

Andrew Page-Dove, Regional Director for the South West, said, “We are welcoming Ringway Infrastructure Services Limited as a new key supplier in Highways England. This appointment brings more diversity and resilience to our supply chain in the South West. We look forward to working with them.”

This contract will sit alongside the recently awarded Design Services contract – awarded to Kier Highways in February, as well as the construction works framework in April to the new framework for delivering construction works.
