Marlborough Highways has secured a new contract for works on unadopted highways in Harlow in Essex.
The contract with Harlow Council, which is not a highway authority, is valued at approximately £80,000 a year. It began on Saturday (1 April) and will run until March 2025, with the possibility of an one-year extension.
A spokesperson described the contract as a conventional reactive contract. Services within its scope include works to footways and carriageways on unadopted highways, including reconstructions, maintenance, repairs, and ditch cutting.

Marlborough said the contract was awarded after a competitive bid process in which it demonstrated its first-class levels of service and delivery, environmental best practice, and a commitment to providing added value to the people of Harlow through a range of social value initiatives. These will include the creation of local apprenticeship placements and support for community organisations.
The contract will be delivered from Marlborough’s head office in Chelmsford. The firm said the improvements will be delivered by a highly experienced team with access to the best vehicles and machinery, who will be supported by its accredited in-house training department, and passionate Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment division.
Marlborough said the contract win follows recent successes and forms part of its ambitious growth strategy, with an ongoing commitment to further expansion in the South East and beyond.
