Improvement works are due to start on the A614 and A6097 roads in North Nottinghamshire after the Mayor secured a £41.5m investment for the region.
The funding, which was confirmed with the transport secretary Heidi Alexander, is intended to tackle congestion at key pinch points in Lowdham, Ollerton, and Blidworth.
The Department for Transport (DfT) will be contributing £31.5m: £24m of this cash is sourced from the DfT Major Road Network Programme and £7.5m coming from the DfT Transport to City Regions (TCR) funding via the East Midlands Combined County Authority. There is also £10m being provided by Nottinghamshire County Council.
Mayor for the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: ‘This multi-million investment we’re putting into the A614/A6097 corridor is a game changer for North Nottinghamshire. By tackling congestion at key pinch points in Edwinstowe, Lowdham, Ollerton, and Blidworth, we’re not only reducing journey delays and improving bus journeys, but we’re also making it quicker and easier for people to get where they need to be.’
Cllr Mick Barton, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: ‘There is no doubt that these improvements are long-awaited for the people of Nottinghamshire and whether it is motorists, residents or the local economy – there are benefits for all.
‘The scheme will unlock significant economic development along the route, including housing, and we are proud to be delivering improvements for the benefit of Nottinghamshire families and communities.’
